Srinagar, Sep 23 (KNO): Nasir Aslam Wani, Advisor to Chief Minister, on Wednesday said Artificial Intelligence (AI) and tools like ChatGPT are changing the learning environment, making it important for students to strengthen their basic learning, independent thinking and compete in a rapidly changing technological era.
Addressing the first national-level competition organised at SKICC Srinagar, Wani, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said such initiatives would help children develop stronger mental abilities and remain more alert, particularly when technology has become an integral part of everyday life.
“Today, everything is dependent on some kind of electronic gadget. With AI and ChatGPT, I think you will have to do a little more than what you are doing because you have to compete with AI now,” he said.
The CM's Advisor added that AI and ChatGPT applications are increasingly being used in official and day-to-day activities, making it important for students to strengthen their basic learning and independent thinking.
He said teaching children the fundamentals and enabling them to carry out calculations independently would help improve their mental alertness and understanding of other subjects as well. “It is not only for mathematics and the calculations that they do in their mind. They will definitely have a better understanding of every other subject that you teach them, and they will have a better understanding of life in the future,” he said.
Wani said it is particularly heartening to see children from far-flung areas of Jammu and Kashmir participating and winning awards. “It is really a pleasure to witness national-level competition and the first national-level competition,” he said, expressing hope that an international-level event would also be organised in Srinagar next year.
Recalling his school days, the CM's Advisor said students of his generation were required to memorise mathematical sums and multiplication tables, while calculators and computers were not commonly available.
He said he is happy and amazed to see children from far-flung districts participating and winning awards. “I saw children winning awards from districts like Kupwara, Kulgam and other places. It is really heartening to see what you all are doing,” he said—(KNO)
